Fragrance 101

Fragrance 101

I often get questions like "What smells the best?" or "What should I get?" and the answer isn't as easy a list of best sellers. Honestly, it's all subjective. It's about what smells best to YOU and ON you. There are no rules here. Do what works best for your body chemistry.

Okay Nikki, So how do I know what smells good on me?

The Fragrance Wheel is what helps us determine what works best for us. It categorizes fragrances in broad buckets. There are notes within each category that work together in beautiful accords to create fragrance.

So, here at ZIJ, I encourage you to play around with fragrance notes and take note of what resonates with you. We have over 200 blends that span the fragrance wheel.

Another way to see what works for you here is to think about the perfumes you wear currently and where those fragrance notes fall on the wheel.

For example, if you like to wear.....

Gucci FLORA ( pear, white gardenia, brown sugar), then you are most likely a fan of Fruity Florals.

Dior's Our Ispahan (labdanum, rose, patchouli, oud), then Spicy woods and Woody florals are up your alley.

Maison Margiela's REPLICA by the Fireplace (clove, chestnut, vanilla), then you're a WARM SPICY type.

Viktor & Rolf's FLOWERBOMB (jasmine, orange blossom, patchouli), then you're into the WARM & SWEET GOURMANDS. (Gourmand isn't featured on the wheel but it is very much a credible spoke on the Fragrance Wheel. It was just conceptualized much later.

YSL's Libre Eau de Parfum (lavender, orange blossom, vanilla), then you're a fan of WARM FLORALS.

Baccarat Rouge 540 (blood orange, ambergris, oak moss) then you are absolutely into Amber Woods.

I can honestly talk about this stuff all day, so if you ever have questions, don't hesitate to reach out to us at Support@zeninajar.com.
